Statement of Faith

We recognize that there are many biblically based, Christ-centered churches and denominations that are part of the Body of Christ and the Kingdom of God. While they may interpret some scriptures differently than we do and reach different doctrinal conclusions, they are no less part of the Body and the Kingdom.

We do not feel that our way is the only way or that we have all the scriptures perfectly understood and applied. Of the many possibilities for how various theological concepts can be determined, we feel that these are the most probable. The statements that follow inform all of our teaching, preaching, and ministry at and through CrossRoads Moss Bluff.

The Holy Bible

We believe that the Holy Bible is the authoritative Word of God. It alone is the final authority in determining all doctrinal truths. It is the inspired and incarnate Word of God.

2 Timothy 3:16; 2 Peter 1:20-21; Proverbs 30:5; Romans 16:25-26

Salvation

We believe that one is saved by grace when they choose to confess their sins and put their faith in the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ as payment for their sins. Salvation is a gift from God, not the result of one’s good works or human effort. Salvation is not limited to a select group of people who God has chosen and pre-destined to be saved but is available to all who choose who put their faith in Jesus. God does not want anyone to be lost but the choice is up to the individual.

1 John 1:9; John 3:16; Romans 3:23; Romans 6:23; Ephesians 2:8-9; Galatians 2:16; Romans 10:9, 2 Peter 3:9

Sanctification

We believe that sanctification is the ongoing process of being set apart as one who is yielding to God’s Word and His Spirit. The purpose is to complete the formation of Christ’s character in the Christ-follower. It is through the present ministry of the Holy Spirit and the Word of God that a Christ-follower is enabled to live a godly life.

1 Thessalonians 4:3, 5:23; 2 Corinthians 3:18, 6:14-18; 2 Thessalonians 2:1-3; Romans 8:29; Hebrews 2:1

Security

We believe that when one puts their faith in Jesus for salvation, they are accepting forgiveness for every sin they ever have committed or ever will commit. Jesus paid for all their sins on the cross, not just the ones they had committed up the day they put their faith in Jesus for salvation. As such, we do not believe that salvation can be lost due to sin after salvation.

John 10:28-29; 1 John 5:1; Ephesians 1:12-14; Romans 8:38-39; John 6:47; Romans 4:4-8; 1 John 5:13; John 5:24

The Trinity

We believe that there is one God, eternally existent in three persons, the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. These three are co-equal and co-eternal.

1 John 5:7; Gensis 1:26; Matthew 3:16-17, 28:19; Luke 1:35; Isaiah 9:6; Hebrews 3:7-11

Jesus Christ

We believe that Jesus Christ is God the Son, the second person of the Trinity. On earth, Jesus was 100% God and 100% man. He was the only man ever to have lived a sinless life. He was born of a virgin, performed miracles, died on the cross for mankind, and thus, atoned for our sins. He rose from the dead on the third day, ascended to the right hand of the Father, and will return at the time of the Father’s choosing in power and glory.

John 1:1,14, 20:28; 1 Timothy 3:16; Isaiah 9:6; Philippians 2:5-6; 1 Timothy 2:5

The Holy Spirit

We believe In the sanctifying power of the Holy Spirit, by whose indwelling the Christ-follower is enabled to live holy and minister supernaturally. Additionally, we believe that the baptism of the Holy Spirit is poured out on all Christ-followers that they might have power to share the gospel.

Acts 1:4-8; Acts 2:1-28; Matthew 3:11; 1 Corinthians 16:19; John 14:26; Acts 8:15

The Gifts of the Holy Spirit

We believe that the Holy Spirit gives a variety of spiritual gifts to Christ-followers for the purpose of building up the Church. We believe that all the gifts in the New Testament are alive, active and available today including the manifestation gifts of 1 Corinthians 12. All Christ-followers are given at least one spiritual gift but may have more than one.  All are commanded to earnestly desire the manifestation of the gifts in their lives. These gifts always operate in harmony with the scriptures and should never be used in violation of biblical parameters.

1 Peter 4:10; Romans 12:4-8; 1 Corinthians 12: 1-31, 1 Corinthians 14:1-40; Acts 2:17-18, Hebrews 2:4; Romans 1:11; 1 Timothy 4:14; 2 Timothy 1:6-7; 1; 1 Corinthians 14:1-40

The Gifts of Jesus Christ

We believe that Jesus gifts some Christ-followers to serve as apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors and teachers so they can equip other Christ-followers for works of service and help them mature in their faith.

Ephesians 4:11-13

Healing of the Sick

We believe that healing of the sick is illustrated in the life and ministry of Jesus and included in the commission of Jesus to His disciples. It is given as a sign which is to follow Christ-followers. It is also a part of Jesus’ work on the cross and one of the gifts of the Spirit. We believe also that sometimes God chooses to heal through the medical community and that ultimate healing for Christ-followers happens when their physical bodies pass away. We do not believe that a lack of faith is the sole reason why someone is not healed directly by God.

Psalm 103:2-3; 1 Timothy 5:23; Colossians 4:14; Isaiah 53:5; Matthew 8:16-17; Acts 8:6-7; James 5:14-16; 1 Corinthians 12:9; 1 Corinthians 12:28; Hebrews 9:27-28

The Church

We believe that the Church is the Body of Christ, the habitation of God through the Spirit, with divine

appointments for the fulfillment of the Great Commission. Every person who is born of the Spirit is an integral part of the Church as a member of the body of believers. There is a spiritual unity of all Christ-followers in our Lord Jesus Christ.

Ephesians 1:22, 2:19-22; Hebrews 12:23; John 17:11, 20-23

Water Baptism by Immersion

We believe that once one puts their faith in Jesus for salvation, they are to make a public profession of their faith in Jesus by being baptized by full immersion in water in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. This includes those who were baptized as infants before they could put their faith in Jesus personally.

Matthew 28:19; Acts 8:12; Romans 6:3-4; Acts 8:36-38; John 3:13-17

The Lord’s Supper

We believe that the Lord’s Supper or Communion is a sacred time for one to remember Jesus, to reflect on anything that is not right with God and to repent as needed before receiving the bread which represents to body of Jesus and the juice or wine which represents the blood of Jesus.

1 Corinthians 11:23-25; Matthew 26:26-29; 1 Corinthians 10:16

Marriage

We believe that marriage is defined in the Bible as a sacred covenant between one man and one woman instituted by God. While we love all and welcome all, CrossRoads does not condone same sex marriage or conduct same sex weddings.

Matthew 19:4-6; Hebrews 13:4; Genesis 2:18-24; Isaiah 62:5

The Resurrection

We believe that Jesus was physically resurrected from the dead in a glorified body three days after His death on the cross. In addition, both the saved and the lost will be resurrected. Those who are saved will be resurrected to eternal life with God and all things good. Those who are not saved will be resurrected to eternal damnation. God does not want this for anyone, but He allows each person the opportunity to love Him or to reject Him.

Luke 24:16, 36, 39; John 2: 19-21, 20:26-28, 21:4; Acts 24:15; 1 Corinthians 15:42, 44; Philippians 1:21-23; Philppians 3:21

The Second Coming

We believe that Jesus Christ will physically and visibly return to earth before the final judgement. This will occur at a date undisclosed by the scriptures and known only to our Heavenly Father.

Matthew 24:30, 26:63-64; Acts 1:9-11; 1 Thessalonians 4:15-17; 2 Thessalonians 1:7-8

The Role of Women in the Church

We believe in an egalitarian rather than a complementarian view of women. We believe that women can lead, pastor, teach and serve as God has so gifted and called them to.

Acts 2:17-8; Galatians 3:28; Judges 4:4; Acts 18:26
